APPRAISALS

3 hrs  Understanding the appraisal system, its strengths and weaknesses, different types of appraisals, dangers associated with the process, devising and using an effective system, legal points to be aware of.

CHANGE MANAGEMENT

Duration varies  Identify areas for change, the implications on staff and clients and how to implement changes smoothly, change-agents, benchmarking and reviews – is it working?

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

3 hrs  Improve the quality of communication between staff and client, we look at the mechanics of communication and the skills required, and discuss barriers to communication.

COSHH

3 hrs  COSHH rules & regulations, Employers’ and Employees’ legal responsibilities, controlled substances, potential hazards and how to avoid accidents.

CUSTOMER CARE

3 hrs. Know your customers. Learn face-to-face/telephone skills, questioning and listening techniques, handle complaints and queries.

EQUALITY & DIVERSITY

3 hrs  Increase understanding of the importance of equality and diversity, including a look at the legalities, working with others, and giving care.

FIRST AID

3 hours without or 3½ hours with CPR, 3hours – refresher (Basic), 5 hours First Aid Appointed Person. Essentials covered include 5 Point Action Plan – AMEGR and DRABC, Recovery Position, Resuscitation (CPR).and the care of a range of conditions which may be encountered in daily life.

HANDLING DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS

3 hrs  How to manage a difficult conversation effectively and with confidence, both face to face and on the phone.

INDEPENDENT LIVING

4 hrs   How to help LD clients acquire skills and understanding needed to live independently –  the support plan, acquiring life skills, managing health, food, money and understanding risks

INFLUENCING AND MOTIVATION

4 hrs  Learn how to influence and motivate colleagues at all levels, managing your impact – creating that ‘first impression’; body language, voice and vocabulary; inner dialogues.

LONE WORKER SAFETY

4 hrs  How to identify hazards when working alone and take appropriate action. Includes Lone Workers and the Law, identifying risks and hazards both in client’s homes and when on the move, communication links, and a look at personal safety items.

MANAGE YOURSELF!

4 hrs  Aims to give managers and prospective/new managers the skills and confidence to manage effectively – develops skills such as effective communication, assertiveness, stress management, decision-making and time management.

MENTORING

Definition of mentoring and recognise own role and responsibilities, to perform your role as a mentor, using the key skills of coaching, counselling, facilitating and networking, Develop the confidence to manage the mentoring relationship

PRESENTATION SKILLS

4 hrs  learn to plan, prepare and present confidently to a group in a logical, systematic manner, identify target audience; what you need to say; resources, visual aids and handouts; dealing with nerves; voice projection; handling questions.

PROBLEM SOLVING

4 hrs  How to identify problems and implement solutions, damage-limitation and firefighting, anticipating problems before they create difficulties, people/work methods/environment, creating communication pathways, managing the changes.

PROMOTING A WORK/LIFE BALANCE

3 hrs  How to identify trends within the workplace and recognise signs of people experiencing difficulties; strategies to help them including ‘open door’ policy, counselling and mentoring.

RECORD KEEPING & REPORTING:

3 hrs  Learn the purpose of effective reporting, how to ensure correct & relevant information is being kept, types of records and how to carry out effective recording and reporting.

RESOLVING CONFLICT / EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

Min 4 hrs  Equips managers with the ability to avoid disputes and to deal with them effectively if they occur.

RISK ASSESSMENT

Duration varies.  This can be generic, or topic-specific, eg Client, Falls, Fire, H&S M&H, to increase awareness of risk, carry out a formal Risk Assessment, and to maintain Health & Safety standards.

SAFE LIFTING & BACK CARE for non Careworkers

3 hrs.  Increase awareness of safe moving/handling techniques to reduce back injuries. Learn the causes of back pain and the principles of safe working/lifting, what Manual Handling entails, Manual Handling Regulations, high risk problems, and how to do a Manual Handling Risk Assessment.  (does not include moving people – see Mandatory Care Courses list)

SUPERVISION

3 hrs  The process of supervision and its advantages for both staff and Clients

TEAM BUILDING

4½  hrs  (MIN 8 PEOPLE) This course will illustrate the skills needed for working together, what makes an effective team, team development, how to recognise and tap inherent skills in people. Essential learning for those new to a team environment at any level.

TIME MANAGEMENT

3 hrs Manage time more effectively, with practical advice on recognising and solving time-related problems, prioritising, changing working practices and managing interruptions.
